Welcome to another week of Game Day cocktails! For this week’s matchup, we’re serving up some Oklahoma Sooners inspired drinks to watch them take on the Houston Cougars.
Now you might be asking yourself, what the hell is a “Sooner”? Well, let me hit you with a little history lesson. Back in the day, around 1889, Oklahoma territories were first opened to settlement through what is called “land claim races”. Basically, a bunch of settlers would show up to participate in races where the winner would then claim the land. Each race began with a gun shot, but those who jumped the gun and ran before the gunshot, were called “Sooners”. This may sound like a cheater to you, but over time it became a term to signify someone who is energetic or enthusiastic.
I guess by that definition, we’re all Sooners here at Office Jockeys, well at least for this week’s cocktail. In Oklahoma there’s this magical place called “The Mont” that is known for serving the Original Sooner Swirl Frozen Sangria Margarita. A Margarita and Sangria combined? What’s not to love about this drink? It’s sweet with a kick strong enough to put the Boomer in your Sooner. Bah Gawd Jim Ross! Cheers to Game day!

- In a frozen glass, pour the Margarita mix and then the Sangria mix alternating pours to give it a swirl effect.
