Each day, we stare at the clock counting down the minutes until we can clock out of work and head to happy hour. If you’re going to spend all your time staring at the clock, you shouldn’t waste it by staring at a lousy Timex. Instead, make it worth your time by staring at one of these watches, considered to be the most expensive in the world.
5. Chopard 201 Carat Watch – $25 Million
What better way to watch the seconds pass than by staring at diamonds? Can’t decide what diamond to look at, then look at them all. The Chopard 201 Carat features 874 high grade diamonds that range in color and size. In the center you’ll find 3 heart shaped diamonds including a pink diamond weighing 15.37 carats, a blue diamond weighing 12.79 carats, and a D-colored diamond weighing 11.36 carats. The rest of the band is comprised of 260 pear shaped and 91 round D-color flawless diamonds arranged to look like flowers with yellow diamonds in the middle. Flowers may not be your thing, but diamonds look good on anyone.
4. Jaeger LeCoultre Joaillerie 101 Manchette – $26 Million
Originally designed as a gift for Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate her 60th year in power, this watch is truly a luxury fit for royalty. The watch face includes a silver colored dial with sapphire crystal and the band can be customized to fit up to 576 diamonds. You may not be the queen of England, but rock this time piece and before long you’ll be queen of the office.
3. Breguet Grande Complication Marie Antoinette – $30 Million
Receiving flowers from a secret admirer? Cute, but creepy. Receiving a watch considered to be one of the most intricate and finely made timepieces in history from a secret admirer? Also creepy but totally flattering. In 1783, a secret admirer of Marie Antoinette placed an order from Breguet (a renowned watchmaker) to build a watch worthy of gifting to the queen. The order requested that gold replace other metals wherever possible and that auxiliary mechanisms be as numerous and varied as possible. Unfortunately, she was never able to receive the gift as it took 44 years to complete the final pocket watch, a final delivery that arrived 34 years after her death. Damn, too bad Bezos wasn’t around to invent Amazon 2 day shipping earlier.
2. Graff Diamonds The Fascination – $40 Million
If you’re spending $40 Million on a watch, it’d be nice if it did a little more than tell time. Fortunately for you, that is exactly what “The Fascination” does. The band itself is made of 152.96 carats of white diamonds with a watch face cut out of a 38.13 carat D Flawless pear shaped diamond. It is this watch face which truly makes the watch versatile. You can either leave that extremely rare diamond in its place as the watch face, or have it removed to be worn as a ring. Little piece of advice: If you’re giving this to your girlfriend as a gift but you’re not quite ready to propose, maybe it’s best you don’t mention the ring part. She may get the wrong idea.
1. Graff Diamonds Hallucination – $55 Million
At first glance, it looks like a wrist full of sparkly fruity pebbles. Look closer though and you’ll see that this time piece is comprised of 110 carats of big colored diamonds placed in a platinum bracelet. It took years for master jeweler Laurence Graff to meticulously select each stone that would be cut and polished for this watch specifically. The effort it took to make this watch with the extensive list of rare diamonds it uses makes it no surprise that this is the most expensive watch in the world.
